지금 한미동맹은 1953년 한미상호방위조약 체결 이후 73년 만에 가장 중대하고 결정적인 전략적 전환점 앞에 서 있습니다.
미중 전략 경쟁의 긴장 고조, 중국의 군사적 팽창과 기술 패권 추구, 북·러 협력 강화, 대만해협 위기의 불확실성, 글로벌 공급망과 첨단기술 질서의 재편, 그리고 인지전과 정보전의 급부상은 한반도를 더 이상 단순한 군사적 충돌 지대에 머물 수 없게 만들고 있습니다. 이제 한반도는 미국, 중국, 일본, 러시아, 북한, 그리고 인도태평양 전략이 동시에 교차하는 세계 전략 질서의 핵심 공간이 되었습니다.
이러한 시대에 우리에게 가장 필요한 것은 분명합니다. 왜곡되지 않은 정보, 균형 잡힌 분석, 그리고 자유민주주의와 한미동맹의 가치를 정확히 이해하는 전략적 판단입니다.
저는 오랜 세월 News & Post라는 인터넷 매체와 유튜브 뉴스 방송을 운영해오며 한 가지 중요한 현실을 절감해 왔습니다. 미국 정치권과 정책 관계자들이 한국의 내부 사정, 특히 한국 사회 안에서 벌어지는 이념적 변화, 여론전의 흐름, 그리고 한미동맹을 둘러싼 복잡한 정치적 갈등을 충분히 알지 못하는 경우가 많다는 사실이었습니다.
동시에 한국 사회와 미주 한인사회 역시 미국 정치의 본질, 보수주의의 가치, 자유민주주의의 원칙, 그리고 미국이 세계 질서 속에서 감당해온 역할을 제대로 이해할 수 있는 한국어 기반의 깊이 있는 분석 매체를 절실히 필요로 하고 있었습니다.
그 공백은 결코 작은 문제가 아닙니다.
연방 인구조사국 자료와 퓨 리서치 센터의 분석에 따르면, 2023년 기준 미국에는 약 200만 명의 한국계 미국인이 살고 있습니다. 이들은 1세대 이민자부터 2·3세대에 이르기까지 각자의 자리에서 성실하게 일해 왔고, 기업, 교육, 법조, 문화, 예술, 스포츠, 정치, 교회와 지역사회 전반에서 미국 사회의 모범적인 구성원으로 자리 잡아 왔습니다. 많은 한인들은 가족의 가치, 근면, 책임, 신앙, 자유, 법치, 반공이라는 보수적 가치를 말이 아니라 삶으로 지켜온 사람들입니다.
그러나 동시에 우리는 새로운 세대가 전혀 다른 환경 속에서 성장하고 있음을 보고 있습니다. 미국에서 태어나고 자란 젊은 한인 세대들은 학교와 대학, 대중문화와 미디어를 통해 DEI, 정체성 정치, 사회주의적 주장에 자연스럽게 노출되어 왔습니다. 그 과정에서 자유민주주의가 왜 소중한지, 공산주의와 전체주의가 왜 위험한지, 시장경제와 개인의 자유가 왜 지켜져야 하는지에 대한 역사적 감각은 점점 희미해지고 있습니다.
더구나 미국 언론과 한국 언론을 동시에 접하는 미주 한인사회는 또 다른 혼란 속에 놓여 있습니다. 상당수 미국 주류 언론의 좌편향적 프레임과 일부 한국 언론의 반미적 이념 편향이 겹치면서, 많은 한인들이 한미관계와 한국 정치, 미국 보수주의와 자유민주주의의 가치에 대해 왜곡된 정보에 오랫동안 노출되어 왔습니다.
그 결과 트럼프 행정부가 내세운 America First의 가치와 문제의식을 제대로 이해하지 못하거나, 그것을 단순한 고립주의나 보호주의로만 오해하는 경우도 적지 않았습니다. 자유민주주의의 상실이 무엇을 의미하는지, 대한민국이 어떤 역사적 희생 위에 세워졌는지, 한미동맹이 왜 여전히 중요한지에 대한 인식이 약화되는 현상도 나타나고 있습니다.
그럼에도 불구하고 미국 내 한인사회에는 여전히 자유민주주의와 보수적 가치를 지지하는 많은 사람들이 있습니다. 그러나 이들에게 정확한 정보와 깊이 있는 분석을 제공하는 한국어 매체는 충분하지 않았습니다.
단순한 뉴스 전달을 넘어, 한국과 미국을 동시에 이해하고, 워싱턴의 전략적 흐름과 서울의 정치 현실을 함께 읽어내며, 한미동맹의 미래를 자유민주주의의 관점에서 분석하는 매체가 필요하다고 판단한 이유가 바로 여기에 있습니다.
The Korea Signal은 바로 그 필요에서 출발합니다.

The ROK-U.S. Alliance now stands at its most critical and decisive strategic turning point in the 73 years since the signing of the Mutual Defense Treaty in 1953.
Escalating tensions in the U.S.-China strategic competition, China’s military expansion and pursuit of technological hegemony, strengthened North Korea-Russia cooperation, uncertainty surrounding the Taiwan Strait crisis, the restructuring of global supply chains and the order of advanced technology, and the rapid rise of cognitive and information warfare are ensuring that the Korean Peninsula can no longer remain merely a zone of military conflict. The Korean Peninsula has now become a pivotal space in the global strategic order, where the interests of the United States, China, Japan, Russia, North Korea, and the Indo-Pacific Strategy all converge simultaneously.
In such times, what we need most is clear: unbiased information, balanced analysis, and strategic judgment grounded in a precise understanding of the values of liberal democracy and the ROK-U.S. alliance.
Having operated the online media outlet News & Post and a YouTube news channel for many years, I have come to realize one crucial reality: U.S. political circles and policymakers often lack a sufficient understanding of South Korea’s internal affairs—particularly the ideological shifts occurring within Korean society, the trends in public opinion, and the complex political conflicts surrounding the ROK-U.S. alliance.
At the same time, both Korean society and the Korean-American community in the U.S. were in desperate need of a Korean-language media outlet offering in-depth analysis that could properly explain the nature of American politics, the values of conservatism, the principles of liberal democracy, and the role the U.S. has played in the global order.
This gap is by no means a minor issue.
According to data from the U.S. Census Bureau and analysis by the Pew Research Center, as of 2023, there are approximately 2 million Korean Americans living in the United States. From first-generation immigrants to second- and third-generation Americans, they have worked diligently in their respective fields and have established themselves as exemplary members of American society across business, education, the legal profession, culture, the arts, sports, politics, churches, and the broader community. Many Koreans are people who have upheld conservative values—such as family, diligence, responsibility, faith, freedom, the rule of law, and anti-communism—not just in words but through their lives.
At the same time, however, we are witnessing a new generation growing up in a completely different environment. Young Korean Americans born and raised in the U.S. have been naturally exposed to DEI, identity politics, and socialist ideologies through schools, universities, popular culture, and the media. In the process, their historical understanding of why liberal democracy is precious, why communism and totalitarianism are dangerous, and why the market economy and individual freedoms must be protected is gradually fading.
Moreover, the Korean American community, which is exposed to both American and Korean media, finds itself in a state of further confusion. As the left-leaning frames of much of the mainstream American media overlap with the anti-American ideological biases of some Korean media outlets, many Korean Americans have long been exposed to distorted information regarding U.S.-Korea relations, Korean politics, and the values of American conservatism and liberal democracy.
As a result, there have been numerous instances where people failed to properly understand the values and concerns behind the Trump administration’s “America First” policy, or mistakenly interpreted it as mere isolationism or protectionism. We are also witnessing a weakening of awareness regarding what the loss of liberal democracy would entail, the historical sacrifices upon which the Republic of Korea was founded, and why the U.S.-Korea alliance remains vital.
Nevertheless, there are still many people within the Korean-American community who support liberal democracy and conservative values. However, there has been a lack of Korean-language media outlets providing them with accurate information and in-depth analysis.
This is precisely why we determined that there is a need for a media outlet that goes beyond mere news delivery—one that understands both Korea and the United States, interprets the strategic currents in Washington alongside the political realities in Seoul, and analyzes the future of the U.S.-Korea alliance from the perspective of liberal democracy.
The Korea Signal was born out of this very need.
We aim to bridge the information gap between Korea and the United States. A key mission of The Korea Signal is to help U.S. policymakers and political figures gain a more accurate understanding of the reality in Korea, and to help the Korean community in the U.S. and Korea itself gain a deeper understanding of American conservative values and the liberal democratic order.
Furthermore, at a time when China’s expanding influence, North Korea’s military threats, strengthened North Korea-Russia cooperation, the restructuring of global supply chains, controls on advanced technology, energy security, and cognitive and information warfare are all converging simultaneously, soberly assessing the direction the ROK-U.S. alliance must take is no longer a matter of choice.
Korea Signal will not remain merely a news outlet. What we focus on is not the daily flood of news itself, but the direction of the forces actually at work within it. It is this outlet’s role to distinguish which statements are mere political rhetoric, which policies signal a shift in the alliance’s structure, and which moves are linked to the long-term strategies of China and North Korea.
To this end, Korea Signal aims to provide the Korean-American community in the U.S. with in-depth policy analysis in Korean, in collaboration with expert analysts in the fields of politics, security, diplomacy, economics, technology, and military affairs. Rather than engaging in a race for breaking news, we aspire to become a policy think tank-style media platform that calmly and accurately interprets how decisions made in Washington affect Seoul, and how political changes in Korea are interpreted as signals for U.S. policy toward the Korean Peninsula.
In an era overflowing with political demagoguery and emotional slogans, what is needed is not a louder voice, but more precise judgment. Freedom, the rule of law, the market economy, religious freedom, national security, and the value of alliances cannot be safeguarded by vague slogans. We need a perspective that thoroughly examines who is pushing which policies, which interests those policies serve, and what consequences they will have for the ROK-U.S. alliance and the freedom of future generations.
